Yorkville is among the locations being considered for an industrial greenhouse. Lettuce producer BrightFarms is considering a location in the area of Eldamain and Corneils roads for what would eventually be four greenhouses with around forty workers at each one.
The company has also approached the City of Plano with the proposal for a site in the same area that would be annexed into the city. Sean O’Neill, with BrightFarms, spoke to the Yorkville City Council Tuesday about the city providing sewer service. City Administrator Bart Olson says it’s not a done deal.
The facility would be built out in several stages. To pay for the sewer expansion, the city is applying for a state matching grant that would cover part of the cost to the tune of $1 million. The city would be on the hook for around $2.2 million. The city is also in negotiations with the company to provide some funding.
In August of last year, BrightFarms presented a similar proposal to the Plano City Council, but did say that it was looking at some additional possible locations.
